Hatton’s hanging on to his hoodies as he toasts ‘special year’
TYRRELL HATTON says this has already been a ‘very special year’ for him, regardless of how he performs in the Masters this week.
Hatton may have missed the cut in both majors but he brilliantly captured his first PGA Tour title at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and then fulfilled a childhood dream by winning the PGA Championship at Wentworth.
‘For me, 2020 on the course has been a very special year,’ said Hatton, who confirmed he will be happy to wear the famous hoodies which have become his trademark at Augusta.
‘I think coming into a major, this is the best form I’ve had. Obviously it’s a place I haven’t actually done too well at in the past, although I do like the course. Just kind of the week hasn’t fallen right for me.
‘In previous years my short game hasn’t been very good, and normally putting is a strength for me.
‘I’ve putted pretty horribly, which is disappointing. But obviously I’m very happy with how things have gone so far (in 2020), aside from missing the cut in both majors.’
Hatton’s hoodies did not go down well with traditionalists when he wore them at Wentworth, but that will not
deter the Englishman from donning them at one of the most famous golf courses in the world.
He said: ‘I’ve got a few in case the weather isn’t great and I don’t think that would be disrespectful to the Masters. Not one bit.’
