TRUMP: DRUG GIANT HAS STITCHED ME UP
‘BREAKTHROUGH KEPT SECRET BEFORE ELECTION’
DONALD TRUMP has continued to flail at Joe Biden’s US election triumph by claiming news of the Covid-19 vaccine breakthrough was held back deliberately to damage him.
Still refusing to concede, the defeated president lashed out at pharmaceutical giant Pfizer for revealing the early promising results of its vaccine trials on Monday – two days after Mr Biden was declared winner.
Mr Trump (pictured) tweeted: ‘As I have long said, @Pfizer and the others would only announce a Vaccine after the Election, because they didn’t have the courage to do it before.’ He also attacked the US Food and Drug Administration, posting: ‘The @US_FDA and the Democrats didn’t want to have me get a Vaccine WIN, prior to the election, so instead it came out five days later – As I’ve said all along!’
It came as Republicans threatened further legal challenges despite election officials describing claims of voter fraud as unfounded. Attorneygeneral William Barr authorised a Department of Justice investigation into the claims, prompting Mr Biden’s campaign to accuse Mr Barr of fuelling Mr Trump’s unsupported allegations.
Senior adviser Bob Bauer said: ‘Those are the very kind of claims that the president and his lawyers are making unsuccessfully every day, as their lawsuits are laughed out of one court after another.’
Last night, Mr Biden was asked about Mr Trump’s failure to concede. He replied: ‘I just think it’s an embarrassment, quite frankly. How can I say this tactfully? I think it will not help the president’s legacy.’
