Asda is cheapest ‘Big 5’ shop for a fourth week

CUSTOMERS at Asda saved more than a fiver compared to their ‘big five’ supermarket rivals on the cost of a ‘typical shopping basket’ for the fourth week running, according to a survey by The Grocer magazine.

Its checkout total of £55.98 was £5.54 less than runner-up Morrisons. Sainsbury’s was third at £62.51, followed by Tesco on £64.55 and Waitrose with £73.12.

The ‘shopping basket’ consisted of 33 products, including chicken breast fillets, grapes, prosciutto and calamari, and Asda was cheapest for 20 of them.
