Beko ‘failed to act’ on cooker danger before deaths, coroner finds

-

LEADING appliance brand Beko committed ‘serious errors’ when it failed to take prompt action to halt the sale of ‘inherently defective’ gas cookers, a coroner has found.

The firm was too slow to react after learning people had died, said assistant Cornwall coroner Geraint Williams. He made his comments at the end of the inquest of five people who died from carbon monoxide poisoning in 2010 and 2013. He concluded the deaths were accidental but said Beko’s ‘failure to do its duty’ meant trading standards and inspectors were kept in the dark.
