Say sorry for anti-Semitism comments, whip tells Corbyn

-

JEREMY CORBYN has been told by Labour’s chief whip to ‘unequivocally, unambiguously and without reservation’ apologise for suggesting anti-Semitism in the party was ‘dramatically overstated for political reasons’.

The party’s former leader (pictured) was told in a letter from Nick Brown that his response to a damning Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) report caused ‘distress and pain’ to the Jewish community.

Mr Corbyn was suspended by

Labour last month but allowed back in as a member by the National Executive Committee three weeks later when he said concerns about anti-Semitism were neither exaggerated nor overstated.

His successor as party leader, Sir Keir Starmer, last week blocked him from sitting as a Labour MP, but said he would keep the decision ‘under review’. Mr Brown has also asked Mr Corbyn to remove or edit his response to the EHRC report on Facebook. The EHRC report also found Labour’s handling of antiSemitism complaints broke the law.
