GRASSROOTS GIVEN GREEN LIGHT TO RESTART
THERE was a huge boost for grassroots sport yesterday, with activities given the green light to resume on December 2.
Metro’s Save Our Grassroots Sport campaign has highlighted the plight of community sport during the pandemic, underlining the importance of exercise to both physical and mental health.
In the House of Commons it was confirmed local leagues can resume across all tiers under the new coronavirus restrictions, while gyms and leisure centres will also reopen.
‘Grassroots sport back on to help the nation stay fit & healthy,’ tweeted culture Secretary Oliver Dowden.
‘Gyms open & amateur sport back on in all areas. Kids team sport open in all areas. Some mitigations for high contact sports & adult sport indoors.’
In a statement, he added: ‘Bringing grassroots sport back was my priority so I’m pleased we are reopening sports and gyms in every tier.’
