Cipriani leaves Gloucester with ‘mixed emotions’
MERCURIAL fly-half Danny Cipriani has announced he is leaving Gloucester with immediate effect.
The England international joined the Cherry and Whites in 2018, but he has not played for them this season.
‘After much deliberation, I have decided to leave Gloucester,’ tweeted former Wasps, Melbourne Rebels and Sale star Cipriani. ‘I have mixed emotions about it. I am sad to leave a great club but I’m excited for the challenges I have ahead.
‘I am so proud of what we have built together and I have enjoyed working with everyone.’
Cipriani, 33, switched from Wasps to Gloucester in 2018, the year in which he won the last of his 16 England caps. But he has not been involved in competitive action for the westcountry club this term. Gloucester head coach George Skivington said: ‘Danny has been playing at the top of his game for over a decade now. His reputation in the game is undisputed.
‘It has been a pleasure to have been a part of Danny’s career at Gloucester and I wish him well.’
Within an hour of confirming Cipriani had left, the Premiership club announced Scotland fly-half Adam
Hastings will move to Kingsholm from Glasgow for next season.
Hastings has won 22 caps, and Skivington said: ‘We are really pleased to welcome Adam to Gloucester.
‘He has matured as a player impeccably over the last couple of years and developed into a top international fly-half. The most exciting part for us is that he has still got plenty of room for development.’
