Mount: To be Frank, we were not good enough

- By dave filmer

MASON MOUNT knows Chelsea let themselves down with their limp display in the defeat at Leicester.

Having started December top of the table, the Blues have slumped to eighth, with the 2-0 loss to the Foxes a fifth reversal in eight Premier League games.

Under-pressure boss Frank Lampard admitted he is ‘worried’ by the slump in form and England midfielder Mount is fully aware the display was not good enough.

‘We know we are better than that,’ he said. ‘We have to have a look at ourselves, at how we played, see where we can improve and come back stronger [in the] next game.

‘We were beaten by the better side. We know [Leicester] are a very good team and coming into the game we knew how tough it would be.

‘They set up very well and sometimes you have to put your hands up and say they were better on the night.

‘They took their chances. Two goals before half-time affected us and makes it difficult when you’re coming out in the second half.

‘When you’re clinical in front of goal you are going to win games. We had a couple but we didn’t score.’

Lampard had said after the game: ‘It’s not where we want to be. I am worried.

‘From the form we were in to get so quickly into the form we’re in now, even with the Fulham win [on Saturday] and some other wins, we should be better than losing five in eight.

‘It’s a young team. They won’t be feeling nice. I’m not against the lads in the dressing room. They will have learned a lesson.’

The mood at Chelsea is in stark contrast to high-flying Leicester, who went top of the league on the night and must be considered title challengers no matter how much boss Brendan Rodgers tries to play such talk down.

Wilfred Ndidi (below), who fired a well-worked opener before James Maddison made it 2-0, believes Leicester can only get better.

He said: ‘I just feel it’s one of these games that we really did good in but there’s still more to learn and hopefully better games coming our way. It’s very exciting and we feel very happy because there’s more games to come in the season. We know what we want to achieve but it comes game after game. ‘We try to focus on the next one.’
