Get the loo-down

- NICOLE MOWBRAY poopourri.co.uk

What goes on behind our bathroom doors has traditionally been shrouded in mystery. Until now! A new survey of 2,000 Britons by poop odourkilling spray Poo Pourri has revealed our top lockdown toilet secrets.

A staggering 80 per cent of us use our smartphone while on the bog, with 29 per cent of us making phone calls (presumably not video-based ones) and one in ten responding to emails, giving a whole new meaning to a productive work meeting. Bleurgh.

Nearly a third of Brits surveyed say that doing a number two ‘causes them stress and anxiety’, so much so that 47 per cent have confessed dodging or withholding going for up to 80 minutes and 16 per cent hold it for up to three hours or more. Ouch.

In fact, 63 per cent of British adults still feel embarrassed about anything loo-related, in particular the splash down. A third of Brits use a toilet roll ‘nest’ to mask any sounds and line the toilet bowl, and 19 per cent revealed that they run a bathroom tap or even the shower to drown out any incriminating noise. Thirtyone per cent flush more than once to diffuse any odours and 36 per cent rely on a spray or perfume to cover undesirable smells – which is where Poo Pourri comes in, natch… And while 48 per cent would urinate in front of their partner, 84 per cent would never have a bowel movement while they were in the room. Who said romance was dead?
