LAST 16, 2ND LEG

MAN CITY (2) v B M’GLADBACH (0)

MANCHESTER City manager Pep Guardiola has found himself at odds with one of his own players over whether his side can win the Quadruple this season.

During a press conference for tonight’s Champions League meeting with Borussia Monchengladbach, Oleksandr Zinchenko declared City are capable of winning all four competitions they are in this season.

‘Of course everything is possible,’ said the Ukrainian. ‘Bayern Munich showed it last year, I guess they won everything. Barcelona did it with Pep (Guardiola).

‘We have an unbelievable squad, the best players in the world. Why not?’

‘Inside the dressing room or inside the team I can see hungry eyes. Everyone is so hungry for the titles.’

Guardiola, who said the left-back should only be focusing on tonight’s game.

‘I am older than Mr Zinchenko. I have more experience and I am not agreeing with him,’ said the Spaniard.

‘Zinchenko only has to be worried about a good game tomorrow and going through. Four titles has never happened before and I think it is not going to happen.’

City go into the second leg of the last-16 tie, which is being played in Budapest due to coronavirus restrictions, with a 2-0 aggregate lead.

Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi insists elimination is not a foregone conclusion although turning the tie around looks a tall order, with the Germans having lost six successive matches since it was announced coach Marco Rose would be leaving to take over Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

‘The season isn’t over,’ said Elvedi. ‘Games like these are special and as long as there’s a chance, we aim to take it.’
