IT’S BEEN EMULSIONAL!

JOSE BRUSHES OFF DULUX DEBACLE AS SPURS GLOSS OVER MOCKING TWEETS

- By MATTHEW NASH

TOTTENHAM’S new sponsors Dulux last night issued an apology for a bizarre series of mocking tweets about the club, as Jose Mourinho was left baffled by questions about the situation yesterday.

In a strange twist to a season which threatens to end in disappointment if Spurs do not win the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City next week, the club unveiled Dulux as their new official paint sponsor – and farce ensued.

Dulux responded to a fan’s joke about storing paint cans in the club’s trophy room because Spurs ‘don’t seem to put anything else in there’ by posting a picture of an empty glass cabinet with the club badge on, claiming the ‘unused trophy cabinet’ was for sale.

In a reply to a tweet asking whether the Dulux dog can play centre-back, they tweeted: ‘He might do a better job.’

The tweets were deleted and Dulux later apologised, saying they were ‘ deeply sorry’, while Spurs joked in response they would ‘gloss over it this time’.

Spurs boss Mourinho was none the wiser when asked about it ahead of tonight’s Premier League fixture at Everton.

‘I don’t know what you are speaking about but maybe it is an amazing strategy,’ he said. ‘If I’m going to criticise something and realise that was a stragetic commercial situation, I will be in a bad position.’

Mourinho backed Heung-min Son after the forward suffered ‘abhorrent’ racial abuse in the wake of the 3-1 home defeat by Manchester United where he was involved in a controversial incident with Scott McTominay that led to United having a goal disallowed.

‘I think he’s okay. He’s loved. He’s loved here, he’s loved at home. I believe he got the support he needed,’ added Mourinho.

The Portuguese does not believe Spurs’ Champions League hopes will be over with defeat tonight, although they are three places and four places off fourth spot.

‘With still more than 20 points on the table, I think it’s still open,’ he insisted. ‘So, understandably, I don’t think anything will be decided in there.’
