AND ANOTHER THING...
Paul, Walthamstow (MetroTalk, Tue), is clutching at straws when he claims the number of complaints the BBC received over its coverage of the death of Prince Philip shows how little the country cares about the royals. These complaints were more to do with people missing their fix of EastEnders, MasterChef and so on. It wouldn’t have mattered what the reason was for this kind of coverage, it would have received the same result. John, West Midlands
Peter says we must accept that people no longer have to keep their distance now we are coming out of lockdown (MetroTalk, Tue). Can Peter tell me when people did keep their distance because I think I blinked and missed it? I’m an essential worker and have to commute and can’t remember when more then two per cent of the people I saw on the way to work made any effort to keep their distance. As for not being able to catch Covid from just passing someone on an escalator, this isn’t based on his actual expertise, just on speculation and what serves his own needs. Paul, Worthing
Now that taxpayers are fully supporting the railways, we see the return of national strike threats (Metro, Tue). A precursor to this was the cave-in by South Western Railway on the guards issue. Ted, Reading
It’s lovely to read Julia
Belper giving a sermon from her pulpit on the benefits of peace (MetroTalk, Tue). Does she think a country wakes up one morning and says, ‘I know, let’s invade a foreign country today!’ Of course not. When a dictator applies forced rulings to the population, do we all cry, ‘Let’s give peace a try’? No. The oppressed rise up for their human rights and freedoms. If another country tries to restore the freedoms of the oppressed, that doesn’t make it wrong. Someone has to do something or all freedoms will be diminished.

It’s all very well Nasa flying a drone on Mars (Metro, Mon) but here on planet Earth, human beings are still dying of unnecessary starvation and disease. I think the money could have been better spent elsewhere saving our planet and not setting our destructive sights on minerals etc millons of miles away. Dee H, Kent
It may well have been the ‘first week out of lockdown’ (Dave, MetroTalk, Mon) and the engineering works may have affected your journey but they were not planned around any restrictions or your desire to venture out. I travelled to work throughout the pandemic and regularly had very inconvenient weekend Tube closures (Whitechapel). Life has been continuing in construction and transport, and as Londoners we have to accept closures will continue – despite Covid. Oliver, London
A humble request from the senior citizens who walk on the riverside at Kingston’s Canbury Gardens, to the concerned officials of the council to provide a toilet facility there. Please do oblige. Ashok Jain, Kingston
