Cain’s heartache after baby girl loses leukaemia battle

- By DANIEL BINNS

THE daughter of former footballer Ashley Cain has died aged eight months after battling cancer most of her life.

Tragic Azaylia was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia at just eight weeks old.

Her parents, ex-Coventry City player turned reality star Ashley Cain and partner Safiyya Vorajee, had earlier this year raised more than £1.5million for specialist treatment in Singapore.

But the Ex On The Beach star said his daughter became too ill for doctors to cure her and yesterday he confirmed news of her death.

In social media posts, Ashley, 30, and his 34-year-old partner shared photos of them cuddling their daughter before she passed away.

He wrote: ‘Rest In Paradise Princess. I will always hold you in my heart until I can hold you again in heaven.’ Safiyya wrote: ‘You are my Angel my heartbeat my soul.

‘RIP my precious baby, you will always be with me like a handprint on my heart.’ Azaylia, who inspired her father’s powerful ‘let’s go champ’ message, had four rounds of chemotherapy in her fight and was recently nominated for a Pride Of Britain Award.

Her six-month battle against leukaemia inspired people all over the world, with more than 100,000 people joining the stem cell register.

And her story attracted global support, with Hollywood superstar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson sending a video to Azaylia and family.

Celebrities including Kate Ferdinand, Jacqueline Jossa and Malin Andersson sent their condolences to the grieving influencer and his family.

Azaylia had suffered a seizure and her palliative care team told the family to ‘make the most of this weekend’ as her body was ‘shutting down’.

Ashley wrote of his daughter: ‘Your determination inspires me. You impress me each and every day. I’m so proud of you.’
