Ole frustrated as Reds fail to trim lead

-

OLE GUNNAR Solskjaer was left disappointed Manchester United did not put pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester City following a goalless draw at Leeds yesterday.

Neither team had many chances at Elland Road as the visitors passed up the chance to cut City’s lead to eight points with five matches to play.

Boss Solskjaer said: ‘Today we just didn’t have the moment, take (our chances) when we had them. A draw is disappointing because we wanted to put pressure on Manchester City, but we couldn’t score.’

The game was the club’s first since the collapse of the proposed European Super League, in which Manchester United were leading protagonists, in midweek and subsequent protests by supporters at their training ground against owners the Glazer family.

Solskjaer said none of his players or staff had seen the banner flown above

Elland Road before kick-off, which read ‘£2bn stolen #Glazersout’.

Meanwhile, Leeds supporters pinned an open letter outside the club shop ahead of the fixture to the Football Association, calling for the ESL six to be punished, or risk seeing them try a similar stunt in the future.

‘You must be strong for the sake of the future of football in England!’ read the letter. ‘Stop being scared of MUFC! Don’t let them threaten and bully you anymore.’ It closed by demanding an ‘unprecedented punishment’.

But with the first leg of their Europa League semi-final against Roma to come on Thursday, Solskjaer insisted he has no concerns about distractions.

He said: ‘I’m really happy with the boys’ focus. They have determination to finish the season strong. I’m not worried about that at all.’
