Solskjaer: Don’t blame me for making changes

-

OLE GUNNAR Solskjaer insists it is not fair to criticise him if he makes major changes to his Manchester United side for tonight’s game with Leicester.

United have three matches in five days, winning the first of these on Sunday against Aston Villa to delay Manchester City’s title party.

Solskjaer’s side, who also have the Europa League final to come at the end of the month, have the chance to cut the gap to the leaders to four points by the time their neighbours next line up.

But the Norwegian is expected to field a weakened team tonight with the rearranged clash against rivals Liverpool coming on Thursday.

But this has caused concerns over the league’s integrity, with Leicester and Liverpool both chasing a top-four finish. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said he does not doubt Solskjaer’s respect for the league but branded the situation facing him as ‘crazy’.

Solskjaer said: ‘I wish I could have said “let’s go full out in all the games” but it’s impossible.

‘That’s the hard bit for me knowing if I do play these 11 [who beat Villa] on Tuesday and Thursday, it’s impossible.

I run too much of a risk of injuring them. So, talking about integrity in the league and stuff, don’t blame me when I have to make changes because I have to. It’s not safe for them to play all four [games] so I have got to prioritise.

‘We’ll sit with the sports scientists. We can have a theoretical team now but we’ll have to see how they react and pick a team Tuesday afternoon.’
