It looked like tea... drivers break down after buying contaminated Morrisons fuel
DOZENS of motorists broke down after being sold contaminated fuel that ‘looked like tea’ from a Morrisons petrol station.
About 30 vehicles ground to a halt after drivers filled up with ‘watery orange’ petrol. They now face their cars being written off or hefty repair bills after the fuel caused engine damage.
Morrisons closed down the petrol station on Aylestone Road, in Leicester, while an investigation was launched on Tuesday. Alaa Hassam with petrol that contained ‘sand, grit and water’.
After her car broke down near the petrol station Charlotte Sullivan, 27, was towed to a garage where a mechanic examined the fuel.
‘They were shocked. He said it looked like someone had put a cup of tea in there,’ she said.
Morrisons apologised and said: ‘A contractor completing maintenance work on our tanks accidentally transferred some contaminated product into a live tank.’
It promised to help those affected.
