Aluko disappointed Stoney leaving United role

-

ENI ALUKO has expressed her surprise at former team-mate Casey Stoney stepping down as Manchester United Women’s manager.

Stoney will leave at the end of the season from a role she has held since 2018, when the women’s team launched as a professional outfit.

After they won the Championship and then came fourth in the 2019-20 Women’s Super League, this term saw United finish fourth again. It has been reported Stoney was unhappy with the training conditions, with United said to be working on improving facilities.

‘I was surprised because Casey has done an incredible job. It’s disappointing to read she hasn’t been happy with some of the things behind the scenes, which in women’s football we really need to sort out,’ said Aluko, sporting director at Aston Villa Women.

‘If you’re a big club, you’ve got to do it properly and how you would in the men’s game.’
