LEICESTER’S FA CUP WIN HAS WHETTED APPETITE FOR GLORY

JAMIE VARDY hailed Brendan Rodgers’ talents as tactician and motivator, and insisted Leicester would ‘keep challengin­g for trophies’ after they lifted the FA Cup for the first time.

The Foxes, a League One club in 2009, have enjoyed a remarkable few seasons, winning the Premier League in 2016 and reaching the Champions League quarter-finals the following year.

Italian wizard Claudio Ranieri has long since departed the King Power Stadium but Rodgers, appointed in February 2019, has reignited Leicester’s thirst for success, the Northern Irishman revelling in their 1-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday.

Vardy said the Foxes had risen to the challenge set by Rodgers after he had left Celtic following a trophy-laden spell in Scotland.

‘It’s a brilliant feeling,’ said the 34-year-old striker. ‘We’ve managed to do it but when the gaffer came in over two years ago, he said he wanted to keep progressin­g, how he wanted to play and he wanted us to be challengin­g for trophies.

Vardy, who has found goals hard to come by in the second half of the season, said Wembley success was even sweeter with Foxes fans in attendance among a crowd of 21,000 following the easing of coronaviru­s restrictio­ns.

‘To do it on a night, I know it isn’t everyone, but 6,000 to 6,500 Leicester fans here with us, the noise they were making cheering us on, it just makes that feeling even more special,’ added Vardy.
