I’VE YOUR HAT, MATT

IF YOU WANT YOUR CAP BACK, COME AND GET IT, TEEN SAYS TO HANCOCK

- By JOEL TAYLOR

A TEENAGER who was in a group of laughing women that took off with Matt Hancock’s baseball cap on a night out has told him to ‘come and get it’.

Georgia Lewis, 19, offered the disgraced former health secretary his hat back after it was playfully swiped it off his head on the Tube.

In a video on TikTok, Mr Hancock, 42, is seen in a mask on London’s District Line at 9pm on Saturday.

The Tory MP stands up to cheers after three of the women, not covering their faces, surround his train seat and ask: ‘Are you really Matt Hancock?’

One then whips his hat off his head and dances around in it, before he makes his way away from the rowdy group. He then appears with his cap returned – as one woman says: ‘We’re loving Matt. We don’t want to get off.’

But as the group leaves the train they pinch the hat again, with the same woman running off with it. Before they get off, the ex-minister says: ‘You go and enjoy yourselves.’

Ms Lewis, from Rayleigh, Essex, told The Mirror Mr Hancock was ‘more than welcome’ to have his cap back, and she and her friends ‘only did it as a joke’.

The tanning salon worker admitted they ‘felt bad’ afterwards, adding: ‘We don’t want to steal it. We just wanted pictures in it. I said “thanks for the hat” and he put his thumb up.’ And she claimed her escapade brought the MP to her family’s attention, saying: ‘My nan said, “He’s not a bad looking chap, is he?” My mum agreed.’

An onlooker previously told The Sun Mr Hancock was ‘loving the attention, but I think taking the hat was a bit too much’, adding: ‘He looked uncomfortable after it happened because it left him exposed. He shouted after them to give it back.’ Mr Hancock was forced to quit his cabinet role in June after CCTV emerged of him kissing his married aide Gina Coladangelo.
