GLASTO AIM IS NO FLIGHT OF FANCY...
WALKER DREAMS OF PLAYING FESTIVAL
FTER Gangnam Style and the Macarena... we now have the Fancy Like dance. It could even be heading to Glastonbury if proud dad-dancer Walker Hayes has his way.
The American singer’s catchy tune about simple country life is sweeping TikTok after his six kids helped him make up a dance routine to go with it.
Relishing his dream of looking out from the Pyramid stage and seeing thousands of festivalgoers following the routine, Walker told Guilty Pleasures: ‘That would be so amazing, just to see a simple fun song and dance travel like that. You guys appreciate music. Lyrically, I’ve never felt people have got me like where ya’ll are.’
The 41-year-old from Alabama credits social media for making him recognisable. ‘I see people and their families going, “Hey, that’s that guy”.’
Describing his TikTok fame as ‘surreal’, Walker went on: ‘This is what you hope will happen. It’s fun to imagine kids doing the dance will look back in 20 years and say, “Do you remember that Fancy Like song and we danced to it all summer long?” That’s a cool feeling.’
His videos are set in a kitchen of chaos and he has no desire to change that. ‘One example I can set is, as they watch me creating content to share to the world, I try to be honest and wide open and not curated,’ Walker said. ‘Not fixed up and not clean the house. I want people to see the real thing.
‘In my humble opinion, there is enough to compare ourselves to. There are enough nice cars to see driving by or nice homes.’
Coming from a family of nine himself, he added: ‘I feel like after kid number two or three we stopped decorating; we stopped having nice things. We’ve just turned our life into a camp.’
