ALL GUNS BLAZING HAT-TRICK FOR AUBAMEYANG AS BAGGIES ARE HIT FOR SIX
CARABAO CUP SECOND ROUND
PIERRE-EMERICK Aubameyang’s hat-trick got Arsenal’s season up and running as the Gunners thrashed Championship side West Brom 6-0 to ease into round three.
The striker, making his first start of the season after recovering from Covid, tucked home two rebounds in the first half and completed his treble with a fine curling finish after 63 minutes.
Nicolas Pepe, Bukayo Saka and substitute Alexandre Lacazette, also back after recovering from coronavirus, joined in the rout at The Hawthorns and, after opening Premier League defeats by Brentford and Chelsea, victory was a big relief for Gunners boss Mikel Arteta. Southampton also went goal crazy in Wales with an 8-0 drubbing of League Two Newport – the biggest away win in their history – as Mohamed Elyounoussi hit a hat-trick. Armando Broja (two), Nathan Tella, Kyle Walker-Peters and Nathan Redmond got the other goals.
In the night’s all-Premier League clash at St James’ Park, Burnley heaped more misery on Newcastle with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win after a 0-0 draw.
