EuroMillions winner’s son fights for life after crash

- By DOMINIC YEATMAN

EUROMILLIONS winner Adrian Bayford is said to be ‘consumed with guilt’ after a quad bike accident left his teenage son fighting for his life.

A friend said the former postman, who shared a £148million jackpot in 2012 with his then-wife Gillian, blames himself for the crash at his 148-acre country estate in Suffolk.

His 13-year-old, Cameron, was riding a powerful quad bike when he is understood to have collided with a car being driven by his 15-year-old sister Aimee. She reportedly raised the alarm after he was flung from his bike into a fence.

The friend told MailOnline: ‘ Adrian just feels consumed with guilt. He just keeps thinking “what if?” The kids were on his watch as they were with him while their mum was in Scotland.

‘The quad bike was bought by Adrian so he could get around the estate. It was one of the “boy toys” that he bought after his big win.

‘It is much too powerful for a young lad to ride. I know he is regretting letting him go out on it.’

Mr Bayford, 49, and his former wife have been keeping a vigil at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge where their son is in intensive care.

Although Aimee is too young to have a driver’s licence, police will not take

any action as the £6.5million Haverhill estate is private property.

Mr Bayford’s ex-wife moved to Scotland, launched a property company, remarried and had a third child. Mr Bayford also moved north to be close to family and put the property up for sale three years ago but returned to Suffolk with his children for summer.

A friend said: ‘I can’t say all that money has brought him any real happiness – and then this happens.’
