Super troupers in the swing for feel-good circus cabaret

- LUMINOSA JACKSON’S LANE, LONDON AND THEN TOURING SIMON GAGE

YOU’LL believe a troupe of incredibly fit people can fly! That’s what Luminosa in collaboration with Lost in Translation are thinking when they introduce us to this brand new circus cabaret for the 21st century at north London’s Jackson’s Lane before taking the whole show on a major national tour.

Out are the seals balancing on balls and tigers in cages; in are juggling, dancing in the sky, dangling from ribbons, hand balancing, hoops (and plenty of them!), flying pole, silks, straps and acrobatics in general. Basically, anything that gets your heart racing. Oh, and a dog.

And thanks to Upswing and Extraordinary Bodies, two other troupes, there will be a company of revolving special guests… who might actually revolve! Ten performers hand-selected from around the world – including a Guinness World Record-holding strong man! – pushing themselves and each other to the limit under the direction of Ade Berry make

this the future of circus. Artistic, awe-inspiring, funny and with live Berlin cabaret-style music from Peter Reynolds just in case it wasn’t already bursting at the seams.

And, depending on the venue, the show will be dialled down for younger audiences in special

Little Luminosa performances and occasionally have the heat turned way up to risqué for the grownups, with DJs to keep the party going after the show.

‘It’s an absolute spectacle for an amazingly feel-good night out,’ says Ade Berry of the show. ‘We just wanted to put something really exciting together to get people back into going to the theatre.’

Job done, it would seem. n From Tuesday to September 29, Jackson’s Lane, jacksonslane.org.uk. Then on national tour, circomedia.com/ luminosa
