Price back in rehab and facing jail over drink-drive car crash
KATIE PRICE has checked into rehab after admitting a drink-driving charge following a car crash.
The 43-year-old, who will undergo treatment at The Priory Centre, also admitted getting behind the wheel while banned and driving without insurance.
She flipped her BMW on to its side near Partridge Green, West Sussex, at 6.20am on Tuesday, a court heard.
When police arrived, the ex-glamour model told them: ‘I took drugs. I should not be driving. I admit it all.’
A drugs test Price provided gave a positive reading for cocaine, said prosecutor Debbie Jones.
She was then arrested on suspicion of driving while over the limit for alcohol and drugs, and taken to hospital.
Her lawyer, Joe Harrington, told the court: ‘As I understand it, she had been drinking. She was lonely and decided to go and see a friend who lived a short distance away. That is when the incident happened.’
Price has had ‘a lot of personal problems recently’, he added. ‘She is in the process of bankruptcy proceedings, her house may be repossessed. So quite a lot going on in this lady’s life.’
The mum-of-five was ordered to return to Crawley magistrates’ court for sentencing on December 15. And she was warned by chair of the bench Julie Hutton: ‘We regularly send people to prison for driving whilst disqualified.’ In an Instagram post on Price’s account, her family said: ‘We have for some time been concerned about Kate’s wellbeing and mental health. Our worst fears nearly came true.
‘As a family, we have and continue to help Kate get the help she needs. We are not asking for sympathy – just that it is recognised Kate is unwell.’
A day before the crash, Price told ITV’s Good Morning Britain she was banned from driving until December.
Referring to her disabled son Harvey, 19, she said: ‘Harvey’s in Cheltenham. He keeps ringing me saying, “Mummy, I miss you”. It is hard. I can’t just whizz in the car down there. It’s not close.’
