Royals shut out Andrew as Met police quiz accuser

- By JOEL TAYLOR

PRINCE ANDREW will never return to public life after his siblings Charles, Edward and Anne ruled it out and William branded him a ‘threat’ to the royals’ reputation, it has been claimed.

The Duke of York appears frozen out for good amid reports Scotland Yard has spoken to Virginia Giuffre, who claims he raped and sexually assaulted her on three occasions when she was 17.

Andrew has come under intense scrutiny over the allegations and his friendship with paedophile financier Jeffery Epstein, who killed himself while in prison in 2019 awaiting trial.

The prince, who faces no criminal charges, categorically denies all Ms Giuffre’s claims and is thought to be keen to resume life as a working royal.

But Met officers are understood to have contacted his accuser after the force’s commissioner, Dame Cressida Dick, said ‘no one is above the law’.

In August, Ms Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit against Andrew in New York, accusing him of ‘rape in the first degree’. She claims the first time he abused her was at the London home of socialite Ghislaine Maxwell.

Prince William (pictured) sees his uncle as a reputational threat to the royal family and thinks he should not be allowed to return to public life, sources quoted in the Sunday Times said.

The 39-year-old is said to have been involved in crisis talks with The Queen and Prince

Charles over the

decision to suspend Andrew from public duty.

Charles, Anne and Edward also reportedly ruled out his return at a meeting in January.

‘There is no way in the world he’s ever coming back. The family will never let it happen,’ one royal source said. Another said William thinks Andrew is perceived as having an ‘ungracious’ attitude, adding: ‘Anything that could lead anyone in the public to think that senior members of the royal family aren’t grateful for their position is really dangerous.’
