Trump meets ‘really nice’ teenage gunman after trial
DONALD TRUMP has met Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenager cleared over the fatal shooting of two protesters and the wounding of another.
Former US president Mr Trump welcomed Rittenhouse, 18, to his home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. Sunday’s meeting came two days after the teen was acquitted by a court over the shootings in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in August last year.
Mr Trump told Fox News: ‘Kyle called. He wanted to know if he could come over because he’s a fan. Really a nice man. He came over with his mother.’ Mr Trump said Rittenhouse should never have been brought to trial, insisting he acted in self-defence. ‘That was prosecutorial misconduct,’ said Mr Trump. ‘He would have been dead.’ Rittenhouse (pictured) had travelled 20 miles from his Illinois home armed with an assault rifle as protests erupted at the shooting of a black man by police and has maintained he acted in selfdefence.
