Smog-choked Lahore is the most polluted city
LAHORE was named the world’s most polluted city yesterday, as a thick cloud of smog forced many to stay in.
Pakistan’s cultural capital had an air quality index of 203 – on a pollution scale out of 500 – Swiss monitoring company IQAir announced yesterday.
Runner-up Dehli, in India, was at 183 – after the two cities traded places that morning.
Once known as the city of gardens, Lahore, Pakistan’s second largest city, has been subject to intense urbanisation.
Increased smog and particle-laden air has left thousands ill.
Dhaka in Bangladesh came third for pollution, with an index of 169, and Kolkata, India, was fourth – with a reading of 168. Lahore was in third place a day earlier.
