Jordan hoping ‘rough few years’ are behind her now

-

JORDAN NOBBS hopes she has finally put her injury problems behind her after winning an England recall.

The Arsenal midfielder (pictured) has recovered from an ankle ligament injury to face Austria and Latvia in back-toback home 2023 World Cup qualifiers.

It is the first time she has been picked by new Lionesses coach Sarina Wiegman, whose side have comprehensively won four matches out of four so far to top Group D.

Nobbs has 61 caps to her name and returns to her first club Sunderland for Saturday’s clash against Austria, hoping to feature after a series of injury problems in recent seasons.

She said: ‘It’s amazing. It felt like my first call-up again. Obviously I’ve had a rough few years and it’s exciting to be back in the squad. You never take these times for granted.’

The 28-year-old said Dutchwoman Wiegman had not been in contact with her before this month’s squad announcement and admits it has been hard being out of the England picture.

‘You want things to go well but in the football world injuries happen, selection things happen and you just have to stay mentally strong – and that’s what I’ve done every time,’ Nobbs added.
