EUROPEAN Union leaders have vowed to increase sanctions against Iran as concerns grow its attack on Israel could fuel a wider war in the Middle East.

The bloc has already imposed sanctions on Tehran but French president Emmanuel Macron told a summit new measures should target ‘those who are helping to produce the missiles and drones that were used’ in the weekend attack.

Leaders also renewed calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, more humanitarian aid and the release of hostages held by Hamas.

Alina Mykolaets, 25, a police officer on sick leave, was fatally hit by shrapnel and another 78 people were wounded as three explosions ripped through the city centre.

A video shared on Telegram showed the destruction at a gynaecology clinic that had been bombed by Russia in 2022. ‘Those bastards. We had just rebuilt it,’ a woman can be heard cursing in the background.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said: ‘This would not have happened if Ukraine had received a sufficient number of air defence systems to counter Russian terror.’ Meanwhile,

US president Joe Biden urged Republicans to back a package that would also provide military aid to Israel and humanitarian assistance in Gaza in a vote tomorrow.
