League leaders give Hill a tough test

Burgess Hill 4s 0

Middleton 2s 4 at Worth School

This was always going to be a tough match against the division’s leaders and Hill were forced to play the best hockey of the season to contain them.

The backs were under pressure from the start and, like the previous week, the experienced back line of Mclellan, Griffiths, Caddye and Smith supported by Nakajima had to work hard.

But the visitors had put away three goals by the halftime whistle.

In the second half Diogo took control of the back line and Goodger put some pressure on the Middleton backs up front, with player of the match Gabric (14 years old) working very hard in the right midfield.

Most of the latter part of the game was played in the opposition half but Hill failed to convert the pressure despite a late penalty corner.

This week Hill have another tough match against Lewes away at the Southdown club at 1030.

Hill: Perry Webber (GK), Wendy Caddye (Capt), Rose Griffith, Anisha Maxwell, Carla Diogo, Chris Mclellan, Marina Gabric; Nicky Smith, Rebecca Temple; Larissa Goodger; Emma Bowles; Jill Brotherton; Sally Nakajima.
