Allstars put up fight in baptism of fire against Spinners

TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

In the premier division, new team Allstars faced tough opposition for their first match as they were drawn against leaders Horsham Spinners. They went down 7-3.

Horsham’s Rory Scott and Graham Beaney had three wins and Freddy Goodhall with one completed the win.

For Allstars it was one win each for Lynne Trussell and Erik Van Mol against Spinners’ Freddy Goodhall. With their 7-2 win over Crawley Knights, Divergents move up to second.

There were three wins each for Emma Torkington and Daniel Pound plus one for veteran Jim Skinner.

For the Knights Fawzi Yousif played well winning one and taking Emma Torkington to five. Mina Matta also played well for one win.

Hang Em High, despite defeating Dynamos 5-4, lost second spot to Divergents, although they still have a game in hand.

Michael Bridge had three wins and Graham Carter two but third player Ben Worley had an unusual off night.

With eight of the nine games going to four and five sets Dynamos considered themselves unlucky. Dennis Hayden defeated both Ben Worley and Graham Carter. There was a win for Matthew Caddy plus an exciting fivesetter loss to Michael Bridger and Tony Rowell winning one and losing one 12-10 in the fifth to Michael Bridger.

Ping Panthers beat Crawley Community 6-3 thanks to a fine treble for Steven Ive, two for Jeff Triggs and one for Sasha O’Halloran.

For Community Richard Cosens had two wins and Brett Holt one.

In Conference Division one, King Pongs are one point ahead but have a game in hand over second-placed Pingwins. Spinderell­a’s stay in third despite losing to Thunderbol­ts.

King Pongs had a comfortabl­e win over X Men 7-2 thanks to three for Paul Brinkhurst and two each for Darius Mayhew and Nikita Kalyazin, who both lost to Robert Hoare.

Pingwins beat New Avengers 5-4. For Pingwins David Polhill had three wins, Rupert Browning and Dan Polhill one each. New Avengers notched two for Prevesh Ramnath.

Blade Runners Jennifer Watkins and Oscar Wiseman both had trebles as Magiks lost 7-2.

There was a shock 8-1 defeat for Spinderell­a’s against Thunderbol­ts, for whom Samantha Stone and Andy Steel both won three.
