Pétanque rink opens in Burgess Hill

-

Burgess Hill’s new pétanque rink was opened last Tuesday (February 8) at Fairfield Recreation Ground by town mayor Anne Eves and Mid Sussex District Councillor John Belsey, cabinet member for environment and service delivery. They were joined by councillors and members of Burgess Hill U3A Pétanque Group. The group, who were the first to enjoy a game, had been working with the town council and Mid Sussex District Council to develop the rink. “I am delighted to see un petit coin de la France come to Fairfield Rec,” said Anne Eves. Samantha Smith, Mid Sussex district councillor for Dunstall Ward, Burgess Hill, said that she and Ray Smith, the chairman of Burgess Hill Bowls Club, had also been working together since 2018 to bring pétanque to the recreation ground. She said Steve Cridland, CEO of Burgess Hill Town Council, had dedicated a lot of time to getting funding from Sport England and that they also received help from Mid Sussex MP Mims Davies.
