Storm Eunice and living with Covid

- MP for Mid Sussex

Ahuge thank you to the brilliant emergency responders who were out on the scene during and after the storms. They were there when we needed them and we’re all so grateful for their hard work. I know many people have been without water and power and it’s been very difficult, especially at the start of half term.

My casework team and I have been working hard to help Mid Sussex constituents having difficulties and we’ve been liaising with UK Power Networks and South East Water on behalf of constituents because of the impact. If you need any further help, please don’t hesitate to contact my office.

In the House on Monday, I joined colleagues as the PM outlined our

Living With Covid plan as we move forwards. This means we are now all going to be asked to protect ourselves and our communities by being sensible and taking personal responsibility.

Now the link between Covid cases and deaths has been severely weakened, thanks to the take up of our brilliant vaccines and boosters, we can get even closer to normality. This means all legal restrictions will be lifted from February 24, free lateral flow testing for all but the most vulnerable – saving us £2billion a month which is more than the Home Office budget – as well as enhanced statutory sick pay.

We will of course continue to detect and monitor threats from variants as we move forward into the next stage of our recovery.

Over the weekend, the PM called on our European allies to stay united in the face of the continued Russian hostilities on the Ukrainian border.

I hope Russia will choose diplomacy over further hostilities and aggression as we moved towards sanctions. I’ll continue to keep constituents updated via my website and social media channels.

It was fantastic to visit Sheddingdean Primary School in Burgess Hill as part of its Aspiration Week. I chatted to pupils between the ages of 7 and 11 about daily life as an MP, as well as about local, national and international issues, including the recent COP26 Conference.

The children always ask the most insightful questions, and it’s a pleasure to hear what matters to them.

I recently flagged the upcoming Dynamic Business Awards, as I was surprised to see only 26 per cent of awards locally were won by women.

I am pleased to see them look to significantly change this.

Any businesswoman based in Sussex is eligible to enter and can be submitted in up to three categories.

The closing date is April 6, and entry forms can be found here: https://www. platinummediagroup.co.uk/events/thedynamic-awards/categories/
