Defeat should not stop Spinners

TABLLE TENNIS LEAGUE Premier Division leaders Horsham Spinners lost their first match of the season but are still well on course to win the league title.

Second-placed Divergents beat them 5-4 and Daniel Pound was the mainstay, winning three with Sally Hughes winning two. Third player Jim Skinner found Spinners very hard to handle.

For Spinners Graham Beaney won two with Lynne Trussell and Erik Van Mol winning one game each.

Hang Em High are in third place with two games in hand.

Ping Panthers had a 5-4 win over Crawley Knights who were a player short. It was two wins each for Steven Ive and Jeff Triggs with Sasha O’Halloran getting one.

Despite being a player short the Knights team of Bron Budka and Josef Krakovsky managed two wins each.

Dynamos came away with a 7-2 win over Allstars with again Dennis Hayden winning three and Tony Rowell and Matthew Caddy both with a pair.

Allstars’ Freddy Goodhall was in good form defeating both Tony Rowell and Matthew Caddy.

In Conference Division One, King Pongs lead having defeated the second team Pingwins 7-2.

Pingwins, without one of their mainstay player David Polhill, struggled to come to terms with the leaders.

King Pongs turned out their strongest team, Nikita Kalyazin, Paul Brinkhurst and Darius Mayhew. Nikita Kalyazin won three with Darius Mayhew and Paul Brinkhurst winning two apiece.

Pingwins newcomers Rupert Browning and Mathew Chapman found the opposition difficult leaving junior player Dan Polhill to hold the fort by defeating both Paul Brinkhurst and Darius Mayhew.

X Men, with Tom Christophe­rsen and Peter Caddy on three wins and Colin Cooper with two, came away with an 8-1 victory over Magiks.

Magiks Phil Harvey and Alistair Blue played well going to four and five sets with X Men while Mel Sims had the only win against Colin Cooper.

The Sussex Closed including, Mens, Woman’s, Cadets, and Juniors is being held at Warden Park School Cuckfield on Sunday, April 24.
