Mid Sussex pupils get creative
World Book Day celebrated its 25th anniversary on Thursday, March 3 and pupils across the country dressed up in literary themed costumes.
We asked our readers on to share pictures of their children’s World Book Day costumes on our Facebook page and they did not disappoint.
Pupils dressed as their favourite literary characters from titles including Harry Potter, Roald Dahl and David Walliams books. As well as the pupils, teachers and staff also got involved in the bookthemed fun.
World Book Day is a charity sponsored by National Book Tokens and aims to change lives through the love of books.
The charity’s mission is to promote reading for pleasure by offering children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, the opportunity to have a book of their own.
World Book Day has a selection of brand new £1 books for 2022 that children can get free with their £1 book token.
National Book Tokens can be spent in book shops across the area on various genres, authors and reading ability.
World Book Day is now seen as a worldwide celebration of reading and it is now marked in more than 100 countries around the globe.
The charity believes there are six elements to supporting your child’s reading: Being read to regularly, having books at home and school, having a choice in what to read, finding time to read, having trusted help to find a book and making reading fun.
