BURGESS HILL HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: After two years of online events, Burgess
Hill Horticultural Society (BHHS) is delighted to be ‘springing back into life’ with a full programme of events for 2022. On Saturday 26th March, the Society is staging their Spring Show in Cyprus Hall, Cyprus Road from 1.30pm to 3.45pm. Admission 50p. All flower shows are lovely, but, after a long, gloomy winter, spring events are extra-special. The Cyprus Hall will be full of uplifting scents and colours - and there’s refreshments and homemade cakes too. Flower shows definitely provide food for the body and the soul! Then on Wednesday 6th April, Jim Buttress will be giving a talk entitled ‘London’s Royal Parks’ in Cyprus Hall, commencing 7.45pm, (doors open 7.15pm) Admission will be free for BHHS members and £1.00 for visitors. Jim trained at RHS Wisley, then commenced work at a local nursery before getting a job with Croydon Parks Department. He later transferred to the Royal Parks Department, eventually becoming Park Superintendent and was responsible for the parks and gardens of Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Greenwich Park, Buckingham Palace and Clarence House. In 2006, Jim was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society’s highest accolade, the Victoria Medal of Honour. His book, ‘The People’s Gardener’ was published in 2016.
