‘There’s never been a better time to join a business at Gatwick’

-

Stewart Wingate said there has ‘never been a better time’ to join a business at Gatwick Airport.

There has been a massive recruitment drive at the airport since November 2020 and will see Gatwick’s workforce increase by 5,000 ahead of the busy summer season.

Gatwick was hit hard by the pandemic, losing nearly 50 per cent of its workforce, but with the recruitment drive and the South Terminal reopening, it’s starting to get back to normal.

Mr Wingate said: “We started the recruitment drive way back in November last year, obviously with Omicron things weren’t to certain as we went through December time. But from the beginning of this year we have been going gangbusters right across all the different businesses across the airport recruiting people into their teams.

“We estimate the workforce will increase by about 5,000 people ahead of the summer schedule. We are still running job fairs across the region. The recruitment is going well. We are expecting to offer good service levels to passengers coming through the airport and there certainly are a whole host of job opportunities across the different businesses of the airport.

“Anybody who wants to join a business at the airport, there has never been a better time than this summer.”

Crawley MP Henry Smith was praised for his efforts to get the industry back on its feet by aviation minister Robert Courts - who was at Gatwick on Monday for the reopeing of the South Terminal.

He said: “I cannot praise Henry enough for the incredible work he has put in in championing Gatwick and the aviation sector.

“He has been absolutely determined, constructive and a really enthusiastic advocate for everything aviation brings to this area.”
