Heath happy to spoil the party

- WILL CHARLTON

Haywards Heath Town were delighted to delay Hastings United’s Isthmian south east title party.

They held the champions-in-waiting to a tense 0-0 draw in front of a record 3,082 crowd at The Pilot Field.

A win would have given United the title. Heath boss Martin Dynan said: “We set up to win the game and help our own play-off hopes and if that meant spoiling and delaying the inevitable, then that’s what I was prepared to do.

“It’s a great point away from home and one that helps the cause. I’m happy with the point. “

Blues keeper Billy Collings was again in fine form and director of football Nick Levett has said Collings will earn the team 10 extra points this season.

Dynan said: “That’s a fair assessment but I think that’s the least he’ll get us. He made two great saves today that they’ll look back at and be disappointed.”

Heath are well-placed for a playoff spot, sitting fourth – four points behind siecond and four points ahead of sixth.

Dynan said: “We’ve played top and bottom of the league over the past week and kept two clean sheets.

“They were both going to be tough games for different reasons and pose two completely different threats.

“The boys have adapted to both very well, but it sets us up nicely to travel to Ramsgate confident we have what is necessary to get the points.”

Meanwhile Burgess Hill drew 0-0 at home to Herne Bay and remain eighth.
