Potter and Arteta disagree as VAR intervenes to deny the Gunners

-

Graham Potter predictably had no issue with the VAR intervention that denied Arsenal a first half leveller at the Emirates Stadium last Saturday.

Albion took the lead through Leo Trossard and extended their advantage after the break through Enock Mwepu.

But a VAR call to disallow Gabriel Martinelli’s close range effort caused confusion and controversy.

After a lengthy delay VAR assistant Chris Kavanagh finally ruled offside.

After the match a jovial Potter said: “I was very pleased with the disallowed goal!” He added: “I think it was offside. I think they were having trouble working out who touched it.

“I’d rather it take less time to come to that decision but, if it’s the right decision and it goes in our favour, they can take as long as they want.”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was fuming with the defeat and said the goal should have been allowed to stand. He said: “The feeling we had was it was taking too long. If there was any doubt it should be a goal.”
