HURSTJUMBLETRAIL: A wonderful day was spent at the Big Hurst Jumble

Trail last Sunday, 10 April. Over 125 stalls and many families out and about over the entire village. A lovely atmosphere was created and many were pleased to feel a sense of joined up community again. Having time to pause and chat to each other is good in so many ways. And the sun shone all day. Congratulations to the organisers for a brilliant idea, one that could well become an annual event.

UKRAINE WELCOME - WELCOMING PEOPLE TO HURSTPIERPOINT: Jenny Brown, linked with the West Sussex Ukraine Support Group, is co-ordinating support for hosts and guests in Hurst. This is what she tells me: Many Ukrainian families have completed application forms and are waiting for visas to enter UK and already seven families in our village have kindly offered to host a total of 11 adults and 11 children. There will be many ways that we can contribute to welcoming and supporting them. Some of us may have something particular to offer: driving, teaching English, possible employment, cooking a meal, willingness to take someone shopping or help them fill in forms… There are other ways you can help. As it will be some weeks before they receive any income, you could put a donation onto an electronic Gift Card which can then be used to buy goods. A Co-op Gift Card or a One4All Gift card (available from the Post Office) would be very helpful. Jenny suggests that you put the gift card into an envelope with the type of card and the amount written on the outside. Maybe also include a ‘welcome’ card. It will take the whole village to support the Ukrainian refugees soon to arrive as guests in Hurstpierpoint. Please email Jenny Brown if you want to offer help in any way at all.
