The return of Mel’s Milers 10k race at Christ’s Hospital near Horsham drew a good number of Haywards Heath Harriers.

Mel’s Milers Jogging Club was founded in 2000 by Melanie Marlow to provide a daytime running club at Bluecoats Sports Centre, Christ’s Hospital School, where there were crèche facilities, enabling parents with young children to run.

Over the years the club has grown and although many of its members no longer use the crèche facilities, this facility is still available.

The return came with a new multi terrain route that started in Christ’s Hospital and ran along a part of the Downs Link before going around the cricket club and down to Southwater. The route returned back to the Downs Link and returned to Christs Hospital.

Bradley Burke was 1st in 34:07 for Horsham Blue Star Harriers; Dan Oppe 2nd in 36:47 for Lingfield RC; Kev Howarth 3rd in 36:58 for Petts Wood Runners.

Haywards Heath Harriers results: Gemma Morgan 131st, 53:01; Marion Hemsworth 161st, 56:10; Michael Parish 211st, 59:55; Sarah Heron-Smith 239th, 01:02:18; Caroline Gumm 301st, 01:10:05; Richard Bates, 303rd, 01:10:23; Rupert Purchase 318th, 01:13:15.

This was Caroline Gumm’s first official 10km run with Haywards Heath Harriers.

Michael Parish took part in the return of the Cardiff University Half Marathon.

A run across 13.1 miles around Cardiff took in Penarth, Cardiff Barrage and the Millennium Centre.

Cardiff University runs the largest half marathon outside of London and its return brought 25,000 runners to the capital, raising thousands of pounds of charity.

Starting with a warm-up the day before Michael completed the Ynysangharad 5k Parkrun at Pontypridd with a time of 27:15. He then went on to finish the half marathon in 02:27:14.
