HURSTPIERPOINT

- Margaret Carey middy@112a.co.uk

UKRAINE WELCOME - WELCOMING PEOPLE TO HURSTPIERPOINT: The first guests have just arrived this week and are settling in with their host families. Jenny Brown, linked with the West Sussex Ukraine Support Group, is co-ordinating support for hosts and guests in Hurst. There are many ways that we can contribute to welcoming and supporting them. Some of us may have something particular to offer: driving, teaching English, possible employment, cooking a meal, willingness to take someone shopping or help them fill in form. As it will be some weeks before they receive any income, you could put a donation onto an electronic Gift Card which can then be used to buy goods. A Co-op Gift Card or a One4All Gift card (available from the Post Office) would be very helpful. Jenny suggests that you put the gift card into an envelope with the type of card and the amount written on the outside. Maybe also include a ‘welcome’ card. Please email Jenny Brown if you want to offer help in any way at all. jenny.brown1106@ gmail.com.

Everyone most welcome. Non-members £2 admission to include refreshments.

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, HURSTPIERPOINT, ‘WEST GALLERY’ EVENINGS: A delightful evening was enjoyed last Saturday with the talented young musicians from Hurst College playing to a capacity audience in the West Gallery. May 21: Alan Leith & Marcus Martin’s Gershwin Show; June 18, singer/songwriter, Lou Beckerman. Seats for both these events are already being sought after. Some events will be held in the main part of the church if the number in the audience is too great for the West Gallery, as we are aware that Covid19 is very much still around and people prefer not to sit too close to each other. Seats are still just £5 and there is a licenced bar. Doors open at 5.30 pm. To book your seat, please email or phone: margaret@112a.co.uk. 01273 835113. You can just turn up on the night, but it does help to put out the right number of seats if we know roughly how many people to expect!

HURST OPEN GARDENS: Sunday 19 June 1pm to 5.30 pm. It is always so enjoyable to wander round the village and look at other people’s lovely and imaginative gardens. I am told that the organisers would like some more gardens to be offered.

30 JUNE/1 JULY, ST LAWRENCE FAIR WEEKEND: Always a great event for the whole village.

CYCLING WITHOUT AGE: if you are a bit older and like a trip out, you can come for a free ride on a Cycling Without Age trishaw. The ‘pilot’ will pick you up from wherever you live in Hurstpierpoint, Sayers Common or Hassocks and head out on a little adventure at a gentle pace. All volunteers are trained, DBS checked and like a chat. Contact bridget@ cyclingwithoutage.org.uk or phone 01273 833606.Please keep the information coming so that your group or activity can be included here. Many of the people who read this column don’t do much online, so it does get information out into the community.
