A new strategy for adult social care in West Sussex aims to respond to what is important to people who access services as well as their family and friend carers.

It was approved by cabinet members in February and now the final document ‘The life you want to lead’ covering 2022-2025 has been published.

The strategy sets out five key priorities: building relationships and connections, empowerment, home, addressing gaps, and inclusion and tackling inequalities.

Amanda Jupp, cabinet member for adults’ services, said: “We would like every adult to have the opportunity to live a good life.

“To help achieve this we have developed a new strategy called ‘the life you want to lead’. This will guide our decision making about the services that will support those who need our help and crucially it is based on what you have told us was important to you.”

West Sussex adults’ services currently supports 1.2 per cent of the adult population who have social care needs, of which the majority are older people, with many more people paying for their own care.

The number of people the county council supports is set to grow over the next five years by a further 500 plus people. Most of the projected rise in demand is from working age adults.
