Keeper Rushworth satisfied as he achieves his targets during Walsall loan with awards win

-

Young Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Carl Rushworth has scooped an awards double at loan club Walsall.

The 20-year-old picked up the Players’ Player of the Season and Supporters’ Young Player of the Season.

The Saddlers have struggled in League Two this campaign, finishing the season in 16th, but

Rushworth has impressed.

The goalkeeper made 43 appearances for Walsall, conceding 56 goals and keeping 11 clean sheets.

Posting on Twitter, Rushworth said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at @WFCOfficial for this season.

“It’s been a season filled with ups and downs but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.

“Buzzing to come away with players and young player of the season too.”

He added: “At the start of the season I set some personal targets which I achieved. I wanted five clean sheets, to earn a new contract with Brighton and get a call-up from the England under-21s.

“When you’re in the moment and playing every week you don’t really realise what you’re achieving, but now the season has finished I can see how much my career has changed over the course of the last year.

“The cherry on top would have been making my England under-21 debut, but I am only 20 so there’s still plenty of time to work towards that and it’s great just being in the squad at this point.”
