HM THE QUEEN’S JUBILEE SUNDAY 5 JUNE 2022: There will be various celebrations taking place around the parish to mark the exceptional event that is HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Two of the larger community events on Sunday 5 June 2022 are: The ‘Sayers Common Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022 Celebrations’ at Reeds Lane Recreation Ground and The ‘Big Jubilee Picnic Lunch’ at South Avenue Recreation Ground from 12 noon to 4pm. Bring a picnic and join your community in celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Fancy dress optional - red, white and blue, or Jubilee purple or go the whole hog and come dressed as royalty! NO MOW MAY! IS BACK: Hurst Rethink and HKD transition invite you to make your gardens more nature friendly by not mowing your lawns in the month of May. By taking part in the charity Plantlife’s campaign we can collectively make a real difference to local wildlife, and pollinators in particular. I did it last year and was amazed by the increased number of bees and butterflies, and the beauty of the uncut dandelions and daisies – yes, really! At the end of May you can record what flowers you have on a sample of your lawn, and then get your very own nectar score which shows how many bees your garden can nourish. www.plantlife.org. uk/everyflowercounts. UKRAINE WELCOME: Jenny Brown, linked with the West Sussex Ukraine Support Group, is co-ordinating support for hosts and guests in Hurst. Please let her know how you may be able to help, for example by driving, teaching English, possible employment, cooking a meal, willingness to take someone shopping or help them fill in form. As it will be some weeks before they receive any income, you could put a donation onto an electronic Gift Card which can then be used to buy goods. A Co-op Gift Card or a One4All Gift card (available from the Post Office) would be very helpful. Please email Jenny Brown if you want to offer help. jenny.

‘We have a wonderful bronze sculpture on our village green designed by Sylvia Thornhill depicting a child from every century that the Fair (so far) has been running so we are basing this year’s Fair on that which we hope gives people a wide scope for theming for either the procession or shop windows etc, so get planning! Sponsorship - various packages available to anyone who would like to sponsor the Fair with great visibility for you and your business. Advertisers - programme adverts slots available programmes are delivered all over the village. Stalls

- food, local traders and charity stalls all still available for the Saturday of fair day. Procession - we need applications for our wonderful procession - start your “Retro” planning now. Fun Run - apply now for details (Wolstonbury Hill features - phew!)
