STUDENTS swapped their school uniform for combats during a week of work experience.

The group of 25 youngsters from Year Ten at The King’s Academy in Coulby Newham, learned a host of new skills during the four-night residential trip in North Yorkshire.

And they got an insight into military life at Marne Barracks in Catterick with a range of physical challenges.

For Leah Banfield of Coulby Newham the week reaffirmed her interest in a military career. “It’s made it more of a reality for me,” said the 15-year-old.

Mel Simblett, head of year 10 at The King’s, said they had responded well.

“Some have realised they are more determined than they thought they were and can achieve things they perhaps didn’t think possible,” she said.
