Plan for new shisha lounge

A BUSINESS hoping to become the “go-to establishment” for Shisha could be set to transform the appearance of a run down area of Middlesbrough.

Plans have been submitted for the creation of a Shisha lounge and restaurant on Simpson Street, Linthorpe, and if accepted, developers feel the proposal could lead to further investment into the area. Shisha is a type of tobacco traditionally smoked through a waterpipe.

An initial pre-application for the project was knocked back by Middlesbrough council which said the location was “wholly unacceptable due to the use being alien to the surrounding industrial uses”

However, the subsequent application refutes this by saying the area is mixeduse and not wholly industrial. The site stands on an empty car storage unit.
