Generous parents back food bank plan

Middlesbrough Herald & Post - - HERALD & POST -

A SCHOOL has had an overwhelming response to its plea for food bank donations instead of gifts for teachers.

Rather than the usual “thank you” gesture at the end of term, Acklam’s Newham Bridge Primary School instead asked parents and pupils to collect for Middlesbrough Food Bank.

A letter to parents read: “Staff at this school love their job.

“Days can be long and stressful but your children make it all worthwhile,” it said.

“Some parents have more than one child in school – buying gifts can become such an expense that we know many of you don’t need.

“This year we are asking for something slightly different.”

The school received dozens of donations which will go on to supporting the food bank over the busy summer.
