Middleton Guardian - - FRONT PAGE -

THE Pace Egg play is back in Middleton on Easter Monday 2018.

The new ‘King Of England’ will be out and about in the town on Easter Monday, accompanied by his ‘entourage’ – including St George, The Turkish Champion, Captain Slasher and The Doctor.

Last year, sadly, saw the abdication of the previous long-serving king ‘King Derek’ and the handing over of the crown to ‘King Robert’

The people of Middleton are cordially invited to join the merry-making and pay due homage to his royal highness, as he makes his progress through the town.

There will be performances of the Middleton Pace Egg Play at the usual locations as follows.

At Dusty Miller at noon; Old Roebuck at 12.30pm; Britannia Inn at 1pm; Harbord Harbord (Wetherspoons) at 1.30pm; New Inn at 2.pm; Old Boar’s Head at 2.30pm and The Ring o’ Bells at 3pm.

This will be followed by Egg Rolling on the hill beside the Parish Church of St Leonard.

Children are encouraged to bring their hard boiled decorated eggs to take part in this ancient custom, said to represent the rolling away of the stone from the tomb of Jesus.
