MID­DLE­TON Ten­nis club is plan­ning to cel­e­brate its cen­te­nary year by open­ing its doors to the town.

The 99-year-old club, si­t­u­ated on Town­croft Av­enue, is of­fer­ing a fan­tas­tic deal of free mem­ber­ship for the com­ing 12 months in the run up to its cen­te­nary in 2019.

Club sec­re­tary Tony Pitts said: “The club was founded just af­ter the First World War and was opened by the then Mayor of Mid­dle­ton on 2 May 1919. We wanted to do some­thing special for the com­mu­nity as it so­cial ten­nis across all groups, as well as coach­ing ses­sions run by Sylvia Decker, a qual­i­fied LTA ten­nis coach em­ployed by Rochdale Link4Life (07800 672367) and has
